IELTS Test Structure
There are mainly two types of IELTS exam – Academic and General. The tests consists of four parts i.e. Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. While the tests to determine the Listening, Reading, Writing skills are taken on the first day. Whereas, the Speaking test is either taken on the same day or 7 days before or after the Listening, Reading, Writing skill test.
There are two modules of the IELTS:

IELTS Exam Time Structure
The IELTS test has four parts
- Listening: 30 minutes (plus 10 minutes’ transfer time)
- Reading: 60 minutes
- Writing: 60 minutes
- Speaking: 11–14 minutes
The total time of the test is 2 hours and 55 minutes.
Marking Scheme For IELTS
There is no pass or fail system in IELTS tests, rather there is a band scale of 1 to 9 to determine a candidate’s ability. In each part of the test, the candidates are ranked on a band scale. This band scale shows the ability of the candidate to use and understand English. These results are valid for two years only.
